Of the main monasteries which is the most traditional. less modern? Thanks

Average: 5 (25 votes)

I think Konstamonitou monastery is the least modernized. It is in the north of the peninsula, almost cut off/

Just came back from a four-day pilgrimage from Konstamonitou. It has resisted modernization but this is changing bit by bit. The new abbot is alien to Athonite monasticism.

Simonopetra, Vatopedi are most modern, no spirituality.

What about the Russian?

Average: 5 (7 votes)

Russian monastery holds on to traditions, true Orthodoxy.

Average: 5 (3 votes)

I strongly believe to think that Simonospetra and Vatopedi have no spirituality. On the contrary Elder Joseph was making homilies regularly and many monks were following his paths at Vatopedi, while in Simonos Petra, the various horizons where come from the monks created a new dynamic in the enhancement of spirituality!

Average: 2.3 (7 votes)

Simonopetra monastery has a break, no continuity in "agioritiki" spiriuality. It started in 1973 by a self taught monk from Athens. His successor, the present abbot, igoumenos, is his friend who is also self taught.

very hard for an American to make contact with Orthodoxy. Simonopetra has parted from Agioritic spirit in its modern revival by Aimilianos.

look around in Kafsokalyvia

Average: 5 (3 votes)

Father Symeon at Kafsokalyvia. I have lost contact. He was probable persecuted for not submitting to give up athonite orthodoxy.

και εγω το ιδιο me too. Ο ηγουμενος στη μονη Παυλου εχει χαρισμα! the abbot at Pavlou monastery!

Average: 5 (32 votes)

Orthodoxy itself! has God's gift! very old now. Probably the last Orthodox agiorite abbot.

Average: 5 (3 votes)

Yes, Father Parthenios has a gift from God but he is very old now/

Ο Πατριάρχης βλάπτει το Αγιον Ορος?

Average: 4.7 (60 votes)

you asked if the Patriarch (Vartholomeos) causes damage to Agion Oros.
He has turned the Holy Mountain into heretics, and persecuted those who resisted.

Stavronikita monastery is small and poor and kind of hidden from the world. I want to know more. Anyone has experiences please share. Thanks

Average: 5 (12 votes)

Abbot is a Harvard man.

Against Athonite Orthodoxy.

How can I have a religious experience? I cannot go to Athos. Can I chat with a monk?

Average: 5 (9 votes)

This is not an easy task. You can seek advice from Orthodox monks, however you should be prepared for a long difficult journey. You may begin here:

Are there hesychasts on Athos today> Who? Where?

Average: 5 (7 votes)

It seems to me the monks have banished God from Athos.

Average: 4.3 (6 votes)

No, Athos is a sacred place.

Average: 5 (6 votes)

Correct, it is a sacred place. What I meant was the fact that mostly worship Virgin Mary and other monks (saints( rather than God.

Average: 5 (6 votes)

The worship of bones of dead monks detracts spirituality from Orthodox Athos. Also depiction of God. Islam is free of such practices.

Average: 5 (7 votes)

Yes, that is the bitter truth!

Hi, I edited my longish comment, mostly to correct an error and a typo, and then it vanished.

Perhaps you need to reapprove?

Of course, you can delete this comment.

Do miracles occur often on Mt Athos?

Average: 5 (2 votes)

There are no miracles. We orthodox must grow up. We do not need to invent miracles, Orthodoxy is the Great Miracle. Just be a true Orthodox and talk less.

Which are the miracle performing (thaumatourges) icons of mount Athos?
