The current visit of Orthodox Archbishop Elpidophoros of America to Mt Athos has sparked a deluge of comments and speculation as to its true nature. All twenty monasteries declared Elpiidophoros persona non grata which is translated into "no official welcome".
"Following his visit to Mt Athos he will speak at the ceremony for the “Day of Remembrance of the Jews” in Thessaloniki and will and will be declared an honorary member of the Jewish Community, alongside former mayor of the city Yiannis Boutaris."
