DEUS ABSCONDITUS - THE HIDDEN GOD

THE HIDDEN GOD: THE BIBLE

In the Bible God is hidden from man, i.e. He does not appear
to man so that he may be seen, or man cannot see God. We
may therefore say that God is invisible, ἀόρατος:

"Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of
every creature:"
Colossians 1:15, King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)

Colossians 1:15, Greek NT. (see also 1 Timothy 1:17)

"No man hath seen God at any time
;” John 1:18, King James Bible

"Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no
man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can
see:"
Timothy 6:16, King James Bible

Timothy 6, Greek NT, Greek Orthodox Church

God may be seen indirectly through his creations:

"Because that which may be known of God is manifest in
them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible
things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen,
being understood by the things that are made, even his
eternal power and Godhead;"
Romans 1:19-20, King James Bible
